Poster Pin-up and final submission

I wanted to get the interactive pencil party hats and bunting in the same photograph but it didn't look right. I played around with numerous variations of hats and bunting before choosing the bunting on its own, as it conveys a party look. I chose to use natural lighting to create the shadows as it added depth to the photo and made it appear more realistic. Fitting the info to the poster was pretty tricky due to the composition of the bunting, the type didn't look right wherever I placed it ...this is the best of the designs which I used for the pin up.

My group really liked the photograph and its fun, handmade nature and said it communicated a party well but after discussing my previous ideas and showing them the pencil party hats they liked that idea much better... to be able to cut it out yourself and make it. So I went back to this initial idea and worked on it to get it ready for the submission on 28/09/11.

I think the new poster is much more in keeping with D&AD's branding identity, it is bold, clear to read and also a fun twist on a typical poster.
