Henna Designs

The idea to include henna in the pack allows the user to engage in the element of costume, i have created henna patterns based on the triangle pattern used and the logo which all connect to Fever Ray. I thought henna is more organic and reflects Fever Ray's organic style and is also one of the ways she masks her identity!

Design ideas for layout

3 Hand patterns and 3 Foot patterns will be displayed in a booklet within the henna packaging

I will use a cheaper stock for this as they are instructions and are there purposely to direct.

I will use white paper with only one colour this will be the colour that is used throughout the packaging.

This print will only use one colour print, using a spot colour pantone 5463 U and will be printed onto cheaper paper 100gsm as it is only used for instructions and would be thrown away.....

Incense packaging

I will print the description and instruction of the incense sticks onto a paper that will wrap around the sticks to create its packaging, this is based on the authentic incense sticks i have seen.. look at dc blog.

I have used the geometric pattern again on the paper, below are a few variations of the pattern exploring what size looks best.

Incense dimensions = 170mm

Paper dimensions = 170mm x 100mm

 i think this pattern is too intricate to be printed in such a small space, i could enlarge it but i don't want a huge border around the paper. Instead i will break down the pattern so that it looks clearer on a small scale.

 This pattern still keeps its complexity yet is a lot clearer.

I this pattern is too simple and looses its quality.

i have made the second pattern a little larger so it will be clearer when printed... next i need to add the information.

Onto Fabric

Design onto fabric... geometric henna pattern

sample on fabric shows that the pattern printed onto the material is too small and fine to be printed clearly onto a texture rougher than paper... i will look at increasing the pt size of the line and also increasing the contrast between the grey/blue paint and the white pattern. the darker the colour the more effective that pattern will stand out.

Original 1pt to 2pt line makes the pattern a lot brighter.

Patterns on Packaging

initial packaging layout ideas based on Fever Ray imagery

the grey colour will be the stock, grey fabric! i will then screenprint over this with a blue paint which will dry darker and greyer, then the pattern will be screenprinted last using white paint on top of the blue.

i would like to foil block the dark grey line that continues around each side.

i would like this repeated pattern to be used on the inside of the smaller packaging and within elements of the book.

Triangles

I have been investigating patterns for the packaging, these consist of triangles based on triangular imagery within Fever Ray. From research i have gathered there is a lot of recurring use of triangles from lights to costumes and cd artwork... these can be subtle or key design solutions.


Below i have played around with a few initial triangle patterns based on the lasers used in the show.

I have furthered some of my initial ideas on Illustrator playing with the idea of repeated patterns, overlapping patterns and tessalating patterns.

Patterns for packaging

this pattern reminds me of a modern geometric version of henna tattoo which links with fever ray imagery of henna on her face... although i like this pattern it doesn't really relate to the triangle logo.
i will try incorporate the triangle that is in the logo into a repeated pattern.
