I have been investigating patterns for the packaging, these consist of triangles based on triangular imagery within Fever Ray. From research i have gathered there is a lot of recurring use of triangles from lights to costumes and cd artwork... these can be subtle or key design solutions.
Below i have played around with a few initial triangle patterns based on the lasers used in the show.
I have furthered some of my initial ideas on Illustrator playing with the idea of repeated patterns, overlapping patterns and tessalating patterns.
Patterns for packaging
this pattern reminds me of a modern geometric version of henna tattoo which links with fever ray imagery of henna on her face... although i like this pattern it doesn't really relate to the triangle logo.
i will try incorporate the triangle that is in the logo into a repeated pattern.

First Packaging ideas!
I have been looking at triangular packaging on my design context blog and will explore a few different styles of packaging and the possibilities of using these within my work.

Interactive pack...
I have narrowed the list of objects down to 3.. these will be incense, a candle and a henna kit. I have chosen these items as i think they will be best to engage with the music on a personal level, i like the idea of masks and other lights and friend invites but looking at the Fever Ray artwork and listening to her music, i know from my own experience and that of others recorded in the research that this music is best engaged with in a more relaxing environment with a fewer number of people.
The branding will still reflect elements of the live show but i feel to go ahead with all elements of the live show would produce a product that is not Fever Ray, it would be too brash and loud.
I will also include a booklet of photography and a message from Karin!
I want the book design to include a mixture of photography from the live show and artwork also continuing and design i have created throughout the book and keeping with a chosen colour scheme.
The booklet must be creative, personal and informative on what the pack entales.

Smoke Type
I like the idea of using smoke to create the type for the name of the pack, it connects to the imagery from the live show when the smoke is caught by the lights and we can see the beautifully haunting shapes and swirls created. It also connects to the idea of a 'fever in the air'.. or maybe i'm just being too metaphorical hmm.
This was a quick idea to show how the smoke could be used to fill the type... i don't like this effect, the font used does not connect with the idea at all and the negative space created by the white of the smoke swirls makes the type illegible.

Materials
As it is a limited edition pack that will be a one off print at such a small number, it allows me to design using more expensive materials than just paper and card. I really like the packaging made out of wood and this keeps with the organic feel of Fever Ray, also i like the idea of printing onto cloth to package the items within the pack, as it will give it a very personal, tactile feel.
I have collected a few wooden boxes and scraps of material with which i will use for tester pieces to show how they are effected by print and what processes i will need to use.
-DIE CUTTING/ LASER CUTTING THE WOOD
-Branding the wood with an iron brand
-Embossing the wood - if it is soft wood
-Wood will obviously not fit through a digital printer so would have to be screen printed onto
-Screen printing onto sample materials
-seeing how materials can be used in packaging
-could i emboss the material? similar to a book cover
-collect samples

Colour palettes!
I have selected colours from images of the live show and a different selection of colours from photography based on costumes. As the colours in the live show are created using lights (RGB) these will be difficult to create using CMYK and will probably need me to work with spot colours.
the main colours used within the live show are created by lasers and use only green, blue and purple light. The shades of these colours become visible where the intensity of light changes. also where the lasers cross.
The colours used in the photography represent Fever Ray's image better as it is dark, desaturated colours, hints of colour, lots of grey.
